Why are we here, boys and girls?

Well, I can’t speak for you (although if you’re here reading this, I’m thrilled), but I’m here for two reasons. The first is that I have always considered myself to be a writer, but I haven’t had a lot of opportunity to write lately. Sure, I write a bit at work — on a good day, something as lengthy as a one-page business letter — but nothing that challenges me creatively. So I’ve been meaning to start a blog for a while, to exercise (and possibly exorcise?) my writing skills, even if no one reads it, which is admittedly a possibility.

The second reason, you might ask? Well, they say to write about what you know. And I am a geek and a foodie, and not necessarily in that order. So I’m here to write about the things I do for fun and to stay busy. This will definitely include food — both my own cooking projects and my adventures in the Memphis food scene. It will also include all things pop culture. A lot of my entertainment involves television, but I also enjoy reading and music, and the occasional movie (although I have become very picky about what I will pay to see in a theatre). Beyond that, who knows? It depends on my mood — and it’s been said that my brain is a dark and scary place. :)
